Hybrid 3 Mixture
- Large dry matter yield for outwintering sheep and cattle
- Fast and vigorous growth
- Winter hardiness
- Potential for good late season growth
- Inclusion of highly digestible stubble turnip Samson
This field was broadcast sown along with 150kgs/acre of 22.4.14 on 2nd August with a mix of stubble turnip and rape/kale hybrid. I then rotavated the seed in the next day and then finally gave it a good heavy roll. I am delighted with how this mix has taken and performed, as previously it was an ageing grass field, which I split in half to enable a grass run back for the wintering lambs once grazing on this field. An average of 9 tonnes DM/ha was measured at 12 weeks after sowing. The stubble turnips have produced good sized bulbs and along with the rape/kale hybrid, this is a great pioneer crop that helps improve the organic matter and break up the soil ready for a spring sow out next year.
